Mifuchi Gorge Canoe Tour: Journey to the Quiet Hidden Spot with Your Guides

[June – November] A canoe field in the upper reaches of Lake Nagai Hyakushu, not far from the city, where you can experience a sense of secluded land. We will guide you on a half-day tour that will lead you into nature both physically and mentally. The meeting point, Nogawa Manabikan, is a 10-minute drive from Nagai City. After checking in and using the restroom, it's another 10-minute drive to the boarding point. As you paddle through the lake surrounded by mountains, multiple waterfalls bring you the pleasant sound of water and coolness. As you paddle along the waterside, winding left and right while looking at the vibrant broadleaf mountain ranges and rock faces, you will soon arrive at the entrance to Mifuchi Valley. Offering prayers to nature and the gods, you canoe further between the steep granite cliffs and find yourself in a different world, cut off from the outside world. Mifuchi Valley, where cool air and silence continue even in midsummer, is a power spot where the legend of the dragon god remains. You will be enveloped in an emotion that cannot be expressed in words. A mini-adventure tour where you can experience sacred history and culture while enjoying a leisurely canoe ride with a guide! Anyone who has been in a canoe at least once and has average physical strength can participate. Please rest assured that there will be at least two guides accompanying you at all times. ----------------------------------------------- - In 2025, due to construction work to remove sediment downstream, it has been confirmed that the water level will drop, so unfortunately it will be difficult to operate the tour after September 20th. Portable toilets are available as the course is a little longer. You can use them at the spots where you can land along the way. For those who are worried about their physical strength, we offer the "Guide ride together" option, where you can ride in one canoe with a guide. ・Digital Detox There is no mobile phone signal during the tour, including the starting point of the canoe. Get away from the phone and the Internet and enjoy a conversation with nature. ・Canoe Bring-in Discount If you would like to participate in the tour with your own canoe, please select the "Canoe Bring-in Discount" option. After the reservation is confirmed, you will receive a 2,000 yen discount per person. For a short time each spring, as snowmelt from the Iide Mountains fills the lake, the water turns a mystical emerald green and willow trees begin to bud from beneath the surface. Our project was born from a simple wish: to let you witness this stunning view with your own eyes—a sight previously only visible through drone footage. From your "special seat" 20 meters above, you can enjoy a panoramic view of nature’s seasonal transition. Discover the silent, snow-covered "White Forest" from March to early April, or the vibrant, life-filled "Green Forest" from mid-April through May. Please check in at the reception desk first. Guests will be guided to the hot air balloon flight experience in order. You can take commemorative photos with the balloon before and after the flight.
